Default Need Advice on Dash Pad Replacement

My dash pad is cracked on my 69 Roadster. It is a red interior. I'm tempted to go with the $100 skin overlay or cap rather than the $370 complete replacement but i dont want to spend the $100 and not be happy with it. Anyone out there used either the cap or skin and are you happy with it?

After having several discussions, I elected to replace the whole pad. Better fit and finish.

do a search on dash pad, you will find some posts that will convince you to go with the complete dash

I bought a nice 69 pad used in Knoxville a few years ago for $70. The 68-9 pads are much easier to find nice used ones than the 70 up because they don't have speaker grilles.

I would recommend that you fing a good used pad or pay the big bucks for an NOS pad unless your building a driver only.

The moulding is not as crisp as the originals and the grain is not an exact match.

You can probably find a good used pad for less than $100.00

Also, since the interior is red, the brand new pad will stick out like a sore thumb because is will not be faded like the rest of the soft interior pieces.

Good Luck,

Bill

I have the cap and its great.

Unless you are planning to replace your entire front interior and molding I would get the cap. Install is easy it just silicones on.

Used replacement dashes will crack when you put them in because they are old and you will have to bend it to get in.

Also to install the entire dash pad you have completely dissasemble the entire front dash assembly including all moldings around windshield as well as loosen both front dashes and console and maybe even remove the windshield which opens up a whole nother can of worms.

Buy the cap and replace the dash when you are ready to do the whole interior.
