Default Radiator filter???

I've got a concern about my new DeWitt radiator...

Have an engine that was broken-in on tap water years ago. It was drained, but sat forever and has a lot scale and rust in it now. I blew out what I could, but I'm still concerned that I'll block a passage in the radiator.

Are my concerns warranted?
What's a good fix? A filter?

Any ideas are welcome, but I don't have another radiator to use as a "break-in" unit.

You need a good internal flush. It needs to be hot to do the most good. No easy way to do both except in a car or a Dyno stand. You could try using a garden mixer on a hose with flushing agent in it with the hottest water you can tap into. Does not sound fun. Big trucks use a water filter, but it is a bypass type filter with a 3/8" hose.

I considered circulating a vinegar mix on the dyno w/o a radiator; just a standpipe...

I think the GM dealers have a "heavy duty" prestone radiator flush you might be interested in. It's a two part system, you put the first powder in and run on a warm engine for about twenty minutes and then you drain the system. After refilling you put the second powder in to neutralize the system. AFter that you drain and flush.

You might want to try that.

Why not disconnect your lower radiator hose and run a hose directly into it. Start your car and then just run straight tap water through it for 30 minutes or so? That way any stuff left in the engine should be washed out. Shut of the engine, let the water continue to flow for a few minutes and then drain and fill with the proper mixture.

Besides, who makes a radiator filter or even heard of one?
