Default plug vaccuum ??

I have determined that I have several leaks in my vacuum system. It will take a while to get after all of them no doubt.

In the mean time I have plugged the vacuum fitting on the intake so it can't leak past that point. Since I do not have power brakes and the wipers don't work anyway I'm just leaving the lights in their up position and running like this for now.

It was not a huge difference (plugged vs hooked up normally) in the idle quality but I am sure their are leaks downstream (wipers, headlights & maybe dash).

Question: Is there any problem with running like this as? Any motor issues, etc.?? Is anyone else running like this?

Any opinions appreciated.

Regards, Mark

If it didn't make a "huge difference" when you eliminated the vacuum source perhaps the problem (which you didn't say what it is) is something other than a vacuum leak.

What year? And what intake fitting did you plug? Automatic transmission modulator?

'69. Manual tranny with no power brakes. Only on orifice on the fitting. Also, distributor is mechanical advance.

Thanks, Mark

This won't hurt the motor at all. However, you won't have any controls on internal air systems either (heater, fresh air, etc.).

I'm with vetterodder. If it didn't make much difference, you're after the wrong critter. You've probably got intake manifold gasket leak(s).
