I hate stereo installs! I decided to take the bezel out in prep for a new, modern AM/FM CD player.
I must be stupid, but I've taken out every visible screw to remove the bezel. It is holding at the bottom, so I checked my AIM manual, and it shows 2 hidden bolts. To get them, the console has to come off. Well, I then removed all visible screws and now that does'nt come out either!!!! Can't see in the AIM how the console comes out (piece of crap that AIM is).
Any tips on how to remove the instrument bezel/console?
On an '80, you need to remove the side pieces of the console to access the two fasteners at the bottom of the bezel. Then it oughta pop right out...perhaps someone with your year will chime in..
We just finished last night putting a USA 6 in our 69. We are replacing the interior and had put the brake and center consol in. First we mounted the radio to the Bezel and there is no way to tip it in it hits the heater duct. Then we removed the radio and put the bezel in and tried to slide the radio in from the passenger side.....no go. You can do it by tipping the top of the bezel out and then sliding the radio in from the passenger side but we had trouble pulling the lights out. So the best way was to remove the parking brake cover and center consol then its a simple job lots of room to work. We remounted the bezel to the dash then slid the center consol in and finally the brake cover. For us since the heater controls had not been put back in yet and both seats are still out removing the consol was a 10 min job.
