Can anyone tell me where to find a replacement alarm (anti-theft) horn, for a 73, with the original design? So far I've only found a "replacement" version that looks more like the horn under the hood.
Thanks,
Ran-D
These things are really simple inside. There is an electromagnet and a adjustable contact. Sometimes all they need is a slight adjustment on the contact, which can be done without drilling the horn apart by using the little funny shaped screw that sticks out of the voice box. It should not take more then about a 1/2 turn in either direction. If that does not work, the contacts probably need to be cleaned, very self explanatory once you drill out the rivets and open the horn. If the magnet has failed I believe you can get a kit from many of our supporting vendors that will replace it. I was lucky and all I needed to fix mine was a handful of rivets from the hardware store and a little time to clean things up.
ZIP products sells a rebuild kit. I've read that they are fairly easy to rebuild, however "tuning" it to sound right can be tricky! There is a guy listed in Hemming's that rebuilds them, to the "tune" of $125 dollars, but it'll be a NCRS quality rebuild!
