At a local car show this evenig I saw a 1980 Corvette and It had a strange decal on the rear deck below the gas tank lid. It read ESSENCE SAMS PLOMB SEULMENT. My 80 says Unleaded fuel only. Were these stickers put on at the dealers ?

SAMS (sic) sans = without
PLOMB = lead
SEULMENT = only
ESSENCE must mean gas.....
unleaded fuel only.. So did they have different canuckle cars for quebec vs other provinces? that must be a quebec sticker....
Canada is officially bilingual (English-French) and the federal Labelling Act states that all consumer goods must be labelled in both official languages. As well we went metric in the 1970s. And yes that reads unleaded fuel only.
From my experience in 1980 corvettes, the Canadian cars were RPO coded Z49. This Z49 was a code on the build sheet that indicated export to Canada. To My knowledge this factory package was the bilingual fuel decal, speedo in km and in mph, and stronger anti freeze.
