Would wait and find out what if any special paint is needed. It does ride real close to that hot engine. I am trying to do my weather stripping. Just posted a thread. Asked where the under hood weather stripping goes? On the hood or engine compartment flat surface. Where is yours?

If you are interested in looking original, there is a specific amount of "gloss" you will want - and I don't know if it's flat black, semi flat, or what. If you don't care, how bout a mural? Or for something different and impossible to maintain, white? 
weatherstrip goes on the hood - the edge closest to, and parallel to, the windshield, and the ends extend around a bit to the sides. At least it does on earlier years.
