Intake input
Hi all, i was wondering what intake everybody thinks is the best performing that will still fit under a stock hood on a 74. I am redoing my whole engine bay, and am going with a sort of "Look stock, go fast" theme. The engine will be a 383, with a good set of iron heads, and a good intake. all painted chevy orange, with the stock valve covers(if they will fit over the rockers). All the brackets, etc etc will look pretty stock as well. I dont want a cowl hood because A. Don't wanna pay for it, and B. would take away on the theme of the car.
Any suggestions/ideas on the intake would be great..Thanks all!
P.S.- I am willing to use a drop base filter, and a shorter air filter as well.

It seems like the Edelbrock Performer series are tried and tested. I would go with one of those. Most dyno tests with 383s I've seen use the RPM or RPM Air Gap because of the high air flow needed with strokers, but the Air Gap may not fit under the hood.

If you can handle a little more rpm's or can give up an ounce of tq try an old Edelbrock Torquer. But if your redline is less than 6K than stick with the RPM. On my engine, 383 (you can read more specs on my website) it dynoed at wheels 332hp 412lb-ft. This was with the RPM intake. I'm currently port matching a Torker and hopefully I can get it on the dyno and see the differences. I'm hoping for a bit more hp and same or slightly less tq. I dyno up to 6200 rpm but limit in regular and racing use to 6K.
