You gotta pull those plastic shields past the metal buckle, then the buckle will pass through the seat once it's turned upside down. Pulling those shields off is a pain to do, especially without damaging them. Use some soap and pull hard. Good luck

I have been told, but never done it, that you must heat up the plastic keeper that the surrounds the buckle. A hair dryer works, I think. Once it is nice and very warm, you should be able to remove the plastic. That gives you enough room to remove the belt through the back of the seat. All this is from memory and word of mouth.

The little plastic thingeys are apparently called T-Shirts. I had my seat belts restored by Snake Oyl (They advertise in Corvette magazines). Snake Oyl refers to them as T-Shirts (because they look like little T-Shirts.) When you get your restored seat belts, the T-Shirts aren't installed because you can't fit the belts through the seat back with them on. My problem was I couldn't get them installed. I called Snake Oyl and was told to heat them up with a hair dryer and they would become soft and elastic and they could be pulled on with needle nose pliers.

I just removed the seat belts on my 71 without removing the (Plastic T shirts) The front seat trim piece must be removed first, then angle them through the seat next, it only took a few sec. Getting them back through might be a different story.
