Default Tremec question/problem

I put in the Tremec this winter and so far it is great. The one problem is the reverse light switch. The connecters they supply did not fit over the switch studs. I tried every which way but no go. I did find some stud connecters that fit but they are not staying on. At the races the other day I got the sickening smell of burnt wires. The wires were laying on the headers. I got them off and put them out of the way for the rest of the day. What are you guys using for connecters. It looks like threaded studs on the switch but there are not threads just a ridged stud.

Mine were a major PIA to get on!

It seemed like the connnectors were too tight for the studs and wouldn't go all the way on. What I did was used a rat tale file to 'open up' the holes and forced them on. The studs on the tranny did have 'threads' that keep them on (at least on mine). I also used heat-shrink sleaving to keep the wires together and routed them up out of the way of the headers using the two factory clips along the tranny tunnel that also keep the speedo cable out of harm's way. I measured the factory harness as a guide to get the length just right to eliminate slack once it is plugged up. Hope this helps!

Get in touch with Mike Forte (www.fortesparts.com). When I bought my Tremec, he sold me a reverse switch that is designed to take a 2-wire weatherpack connector and the appropriate connector. I just replaced the stock switch with his and have no problems. (Of course, I have no reverse lights right now but that is a different issue).

Oh I even got a simpler fix.. Get rid of the little pig tail that they send you it's crap.. I can't believe they even send it out.. Make your own from the firewall/wiring harness to the tranny. The normal butt type connectors will twist on to the tranny reverse switch with less problems...... Dave..

Thanks for the ideas. I will try some different connecters and see if they will hold up. If all else fails I will try a new switch from Fortes. I agree the connecters they send are garbage. I have an email into them asking about these.

youwish2beme: That car looks great with that wheel tire combo
