I'll weigh in here also. Properly tuned, the Qjet is a great carb but so is the Holley. I really thinks that it is a personal preference thing. Don't let folk convince you that a Qjet is junk simply because they've never taken the time to understand them.
Well, I've been looking at this forum for the last year, as I rebuild my 79 L82. Might as well jump in here because I really was torn as to which to go with when it was time to rebuild the Qjet or go with the Holley. I chose the Qjet because it was just the better choice a for vette that was going to be driven daily. More reliable, less quirky, better mileage... Holley is better if you are going to run full out on the week end and let it sit during the week(IMHO). I also think you need to rebuild the Holley right out of the box to run right on the vette. That's my 2cents.
I had a 650 DP spreadbore on my stroker for about a year. It made good power but was finickity and needed constant tuning. I send my original q-jet in to a local carb guy who modified it and set it up. It ran just as well as the holley at its best, and three years later it runs great untouched. I cant feel a difference in power, but the q-jet is a heck of lot more reliable.
If you want a spread bore Holley with CFM you can purchase the 6213AAA carb it is a spread bore double pumper with 800CFM I found the one I had to be a great carb which gave good milage and performance.
