Default number one spark plug position at dist. cap

Hello corvette friends Im installing braided ignition wires and would like to know the correct postion for number one spark plug is it above the the slide up window ? or is it closer to the vac. cannister?it is a B/B thank-you

If it is a pre-HEI distributor, then #1 is just to the left of the window. On HEI (post-1975) it should be the first plug to the left of the wiring connectors.

Usually pointing straight towards cylinder #1 At least thats how I install my distributors :o)

I installed my distributor so the mechanical tach drive cable was not binding then moved the wires as necessary. I broke a tach drive gear by binding the cable worrying about the correct location of # 1 spark plug position.

A friend showed me his NCRS magazine. Did you know that 1968-1974 Corvette SB distributors have different #1 position than all other Chevy's? To prevent binding the tach cable, the distributor is rotated 90* clockwise, and then to keep the wires even, the #1 is to the RIGHT of the window. Joe
