I have an oppurtunity to trade my '94 25th Anniversary T/A for an '82 Crossfire Vette. From the pics, the Vette is in very good condition and from the re-sale values, I can tell I'll be ahead a few grand. But I know there's not much that can be done with that crossfire injection setup. . . so any kind of performance enhancements to get it close to my previous LT1 powered T/A is pretty much a lost cause.
So, I've been entertaining some absolutely sick ideas of converting it to that new 572" crate motor, or some other BBC set-up with the goal of running 10's. I'm an ME and once dropped a Buick 455 in an '81 "Turbo" T/A, so I know this has to be a fairly straight-forward conversion in comparision. But I'd still like to get some advice for the following areas:
1. motor mounts
2. fuel delivery upgrades
3. driveling upgrades
4. hood clearance
5. front coil springs
6. side pipes or other exhaust recommendations
7. anything else to look out for?
Rearend is gonna be your biggest problem. Dragvette makes a kit to strenghten it. My 383 make more than 500fps torque and mine is still together so far.
Putting a big block in a 82 would probably require removing the AC box on the firewall or modifing it alot.
motor mounts will be no problem
The electric fuel pump will be sufficent to feed it
Go to a L-88 style hood for clearance
You'll need heavier front springs unless it's all alum
Sidepipes would be best
Needs a different trans, a newer model 30 spline 700 or you could just go with a 400
dragvette's kit ain't gonna help the diff from blowing itself all over the pavement, the 82 diff is not strong, the aluminium case is pretty weak, the posi case bearing caps are weak, the mating sufrace of caps and housing is AS CAST!! (C4 D36 similar, only C4 D44 has properly machined surfaces)
Friend of mine down the raod has a 82 with a 700hp 502 in it. He went ahead and backhalved it before he put the motor in. It has MT Sportsman 33 x 18.50's inside the fender wells. Looks awesome from behind.

Call Tom's Differential in CA and get a 1979 and older set up and the modified bat wing to fit the older diff. Convert to heavy duty everything, it'll eat up a couple grand very fast.
OK Glen, I'll go by his house this coming week and take some pics just for you.
Good: what day can I expect to see them???

It's more 'project' than 'car' right now:
I'm in no 'real-hurry' with it.
Tidying up the interior, fabricating gauge cluster/console cover, mounting a shifter, etc.
I wanted to go to the strip today and speak with the chassis-guy about my car, but it rained today.
Maybe next week.....
If you do rip off the crossfire stuff, I would be more than happy to take all that crap off your hands, You didn't want it laying around just collecting dust anyway....
Hopefully early, if I don't have too much going on tues, mondays are bad for me. Riding in his car is the reason I'm hesitant about doing mine. Rough and very stiff.

I'm thinking about going to autometer phantoms thru out. Did you see my post about the B&M shifter I put in? Works real good
Dawg you still hunting a crossfire intake to port on? Send me an email I'm too far from stock to turn back now.
