Headlight problem..

The shop manual says to check for voltage on the red wire of the headlight switch, which I have none (this confuses me a little because I do have running lights). Anyway, since I have nothing there, it suggests that I check the fusable link.
Anybody know where the fusable link for the headlight switch is located on an ’80. I assumed it was in the fuse block and tried to replace both there with a regular fuse just to check, but no luck with them coming on. I’m also open to any other suggestions…
Edit: took jc's recommendation and looked at starter, all hot there. Then hooked switch back up and supplied 12V to red wire at light switch. Twa La, lights. That eliminates ground, dimmer, light switch, and I pretty much tells me it's definitely between battery and light switch...
I suppose if I don't find a link or break in the wire somewhere, I'll just run a hot (via a fuse) to the switch and call it bubba'd, but working...on to the next whatever comes up...
