The truck finally got here with my 73 LS4 convertible. First thing on my list is some new mufflers, since the original are way too quiet. I want everyone to know it's a 454 when it fires up. I'd love something that sounds like the old RPO N11 mufflers from the mid 60s... which sound like an inboard gurgling in the water. Would also be nice if they weren't as big as these gonads hanging under this one.
Two words CHAMBERED EXHAUST, it gives a nice throaty low down deep rumble at idle, and sounds VERY nice and deep when crusing around town, but when you step on it, all hell breaks loose

I have chambered exhaust from MA on my '77. Very accurate description.

A lot really depends on how loud you want it, if you actually want to be able to have a conversation in the car while it's running then the delta 50 flowmasters work very well and it still sounds like an obvious big block chevy, I've toyed around with the idea of putting the 40 series on it but I think I would be very annoyed on my first long road trip with them. The delta 50's are a little hard to stuff up in there since they are longer then stock, but it can be done.
Thing is, I would LOVE a deep bass sound, BUT I can't stand the freaking RESONANCE at around 1800 rpm's and lugging through minor streets in 1;1 drive gear, which is a LOT of driving in traffic....that's where allmost all of my louder exhausts seem to get me....
I don't even care so much about crackling on backdown, that's not a source of irritation to me,
Hooker Aerochambers or Maximum flows work great for sound and performance. I actually have the Max flows on my 71 with a zz4 and it is nice at idle, but really opens up when you get on the gas.
