Default Pulling carpet from compartments

In the final stages of my carpeting project I've got a new challenge. The three compartments behind the seats are carpeted. The doors are plastic, and there's a painted-to-match plastic trim around the outer edge of each of the three doors. This glued on trim piece holds the edges of the carpet onto the doors.

I have pulled the carpet off the faces of the doors but before I glue the new stuff on to them, it would be nice to get these plastic trim pieces off, to clean the carpet out from under the edges. I've soaked them in water for 24 hours trying to loosen the carpet but it's still like pulling teeth to get the last pieces of the carpet un stuck from the edges. I can pull a couple of the edges of these trim pieces back, far enough to see that there;s about 1/4 inch of carpet all the way around, under them.

How can I get these things off the compartment doors to clean under them, without breaking them????

You don't say what year, but my 69 had 6-10 small screws around the perimeter of each plastic "bezel"...the piece that retains the carpet. Chuck

You can pretty much plan on breaking at least one of them, but you can get a good set of all 3 on ebay for less than 15 bucks

Naahh not so lucky. The car's a 76 and there are no screws. It is all glued together

The only way I could see to remove them was to bust them up.
The new ones came with little holes that I used to put some small wood screws in to hold trim to comparment doors. What a pita
that was to remove the carpet and trim.

Yea! Literally hours .... but thanks to the folks here, I've got them cleaned up. I just hope the heck that I can put them together well enough for them to fit good and look good now!

Default carpet

The doors on my 76 had black plastic rivets holding the trim on, I just drilled them out and replaced them with small screws. The carpet should pull off easy and I glued the new carpet on with 3m adhesive.
