Default Electronic Spark Control

Hey guys, I recieved code 43 tonight after suspecting a problem with timing for a few weeks. Any of you every have the Electronic Spark Control Module go out before? My car is running rich at idle and misses a little until warmed up. Could this thing cause my problems or will any other sensor cause this fault code. I believe the knock sensor is ok.

1982, x-ram intake, 1.6:1 roller rockers and a 468 lift cam... It has not been running very well for the last few weeks. I noticed a miss under a load while it is warm but I figure that is due to a fouled plug because of the rich intake. once i burn it off a little or raise the idle for a few second it starts running smooth... this code just started tonight.I clear the ECM and ran it again for a few miles. Gave me the code again but both times I have been in full throttle. It is obviosuly running rich, burning eyes at idle, and I'm hoping this is my problem. I have a service manual and plan to do some field testing tomorrow.

One more thing.. yesterday I noticed my RPM gauge going crazy. After a few restarts it started working correctly again.
