Anyone use these O ring thermostat housing by Mr. Gasket? I've just put on an Edelbrock RPM Performer Aluminum intake and wanted to know if this was the way to go. I've not heard of them before. If it is not the way to go please post your suggestion and a link. Thanks!
I've had nothing but trouble with them. I've gone through two one of which was the chrome Mr. Gasket and finally ended up going back to the gasket type just a month ago. I have a blower manifold but I don't see why that would have made a difference. Unfortunately I had to remove the blower each time I tried to replace the o-ring or housing. They stay leak free for 6 months or so and then begin to leak from my experience.
In the Edelbrock installation sheet they recommend not to use a chrome water neck with their intake manifolds. I have a chrome water neck on my Performer 2101 but have not finished putting the motor back together yet so I have no idea if it's going to leak or not. Some people have told me that they haven't had any problems using them and some have told me they had problems with leaks. I guess there's only one way to find out, run it!
I use the same one. Never had a problem and mine was off and on almost daily for a while when I was testing thermostats. Never had a problem even when the bolts were not tightened properly.
I did run the mounting surface over a piece of emery paper taped to glass to make sure the surface was flat but that is something I always do to thermostat housings.
