Default Is it hot in here?

Finally discovered through trial-and-error that my vehicle is not overheating (don't trust your stock guage! Mechanical guage sez 180). However, after warming up, everything under the hood is hot to the touch. You cannot touch the alternator bracket, the power-steering fill cap or the oil/tranny dipsticks.

Is this normal?

I know I can touch most of the accessory's on my engine when warm and running. Are you running headers? Those can heat things up pretty good sometimes.

hmm... I wonder if the florida heat has anything to do with this. This morning I got into my car and the steering wheel was so hot I physically couldnt grab it. Had to wrap some of my shirt around it to cool an area down.

No headers here. Stock manifolds/exhaust. I need a rag to pull the dipstick...it's that hot. Water temp reads 180.

How about the door handles or the shift ****? There have been times that I can't get in the car with out burning myself.

Work as roofer or on a blacktop crew for a month and your
motor will feel cooler to the touch.
