I am changing to an Edelbrock 600 cfm and I have a few questions.
1. Do I need to run an EGR valve? The carb doesnt fit with it on so I am assuming I dont need it and to just block off the holes.
2. Do I need that second hose that runs from the front of the manifold into the carb. This is where the EGR hose plugs into. I cant see a spot on the carb to put it so I am assuming I just take out this fitting also and plug it.
3. Evaporative canister hose. What do I do with the one that went to the carburetor?
4. Almost forgot one. Does my car have timed vacuum advance or full vacuum advance. This tells me which spot I connect the hose to.
I need help cause I want to finish the installed tonight. Thanks!

2-Not clear what you mean, but.....looking at the carb from the front. The left small fitting is for ported vacuum. The large middle fitting is for your PCV. The right side small fitting is manifold vacuum.
3-Use the right side small fitting described above,
4-I use the timed, otherwise called ported, which is the left side small fitting.
If it runs rich when you tune it in, you might have to look at the floats adjustment, and if ok, check the fuel pressure. These carbs don't like more than 6 lbs pressure.

I still need more help. I cant figure out how the throttle cable attaches to the lever. There isnt a bolt or stud it goes on. And where does the transmission kickdown cable attach to. I see where the return spring go but I cant figure out these stupid cables. Edelbrocks directions are pretty poor unless you buy everything they want you to.
it might be a good idea to buy everythgin they want you to
if you have a drop base air cleaner you wil need an edlebrock banjo fitting for the fuel line, the hose rubs the air cleaner and it wont go all the way down, i tried to use elbows form advance but never found one that fit right, must be metric or a special edlebrock size. I used a new throttle cable and throttle cable mount, the mount wil lalso hold the tranny kick down. You might need to but the bracket for the kick down form edlebrock. It mounts to the throttle lever of the carb. I might have one in my basement, but ive probobly lost it, ill look though, i belive it came with my carb, used. I persoanlly jsut did the kickdown by hand
Could you possibly take a picture of the actually throttle lever on the carb with all the cables hooked up so I can tell where they go. That would be awesome if you could find the kick down. It would be greatly appreciated. I will check around my area to see if anyone has that part. Thanks.
I did the same carb install on my 77 L-48. I bought an aftermarket throttle cable from Autozone (Spectre, I believe) and hooked the kickdown to the lower spring hole on the throttle bracket. I also got the a/c solenoid, so that precluded use of the top spring hole. I drilled a hole for the return spring just above the kickdown linkage and got an aftermarket spring bracket to attach the other end of the spring to. I also used a low profile air cleaner for hood clearance, and my Weiand intake has no EGR to block off. I have the banjo fitting and will be getting a taller air cleaner with a drop base for better air flow, either that or one of those bug-eye looking Edelbrock cleaners. They flow well, but I ain't real sure about the foam element.
Any pictures? I have tried to call Edelbrock three times in the last 2 days to get info on what parts I need but I hang up everytime because I get fed up with being on hold for 20 minutes. And Summits tech line tells me the things I already know. So I am turning to the forum for help.
Thank you SO much. Thats why I love this forum. The only problem I would have with hooking my kickdown cable to the spot you have is that then I wouldnt be able to go full throttle. Is this because you have different cables on yours?

Why would you not be able to get full throttle? If you have a TH350 tranny, the kickdown cable is adjustable. There is a locking tab on the top of the cable just behind the bracket. Once you have the kickdown cable attached to the carb linkage, pop up the tab with a flathead screwdriver. The cable will retract into the cable housing. Now turn the linkage to the full throttle position and hold it there while you pop the tab back into the locked position. That will set the kickdown cable in the proper postion for 3-1 and 3-2 downshifts. Let me know how it works out.
The carb is an Edelbrock 1406 with a 3/8" heat insulator/spacer to prevent fuel boil. The base of the air cleaner is Edelbrock to clear the electric choke. The stock (for a Holley) does not. The top lid is GM. To get clearance with the hood I went with a 2" K&N filter. Things did not clear with the stock 3" air filter. I did the conversion two months ago because the Holley became troublesome.
I have not had any problems since.
There was a question on where to locate the throttle: in the middle hole or the top. I tried the top but could get the transmission kickdown adjusted. So back to the original location in the middle and things went back to normal. And I do have WOT.
Your install is much cleaner than mine. Did that kickdown bracket come in the box with the carb? Mine didn't come with one. I'm probably gonna re-visit that install and clean it up when I re-do all the hoses. I hope one day my engine compartment looks as good as yours! Yours is just beautiful!
I mentioned the generation difference. And that may answer your question. I am not sure. The kick-down on a C2 is not a cable but a threaded rod. So the adjustment is pretty easy.
