Default what is this 68 vert worth?

Hi, found out a guy that my dad knows is thinking about selling his 1968 convertible it is a number matching 327 automatic, NO air, he has both tops, it is yellow with black interior.

I remember seeing this car 10 years ago when was 10...anyway he has had it for 20 years and it has always been kept in a nice storage garage. I don't really know anything else about it other than the info I've already mentioned. My dad called him tonight to see if he still had the car and he does and said he will probably never mess with it again and to make him an offer so what do you think? Oh one other thing he mentioned it was painted about 10 years ago...and from what I remember the car looked in decent shape not like frame off restored but a decent driver car.

My only concern is he has had it 20 years and not drove it much and I know that can be bad on a car..

also how much HP would this car have?

so what range would you guess this car is worth?

THANKS!

I think the best one to determine value is you. A car, any car is only worth what the owner will let it go for, and what the buyer is willing to spend. If the two numbers match, that's what it's worth. Of course when you sell it, it may be worth more or less. Good luck.

In 68 a base Corvette was a 327 300 horsepower vehicle. Sitting for 20 years...thing to do is look underneath for leaks. You could easily have $1k wrapped up in repairs on the underneath sude.

thanks, anymore thoughts on the price?

Oh and it's only a 327 but in 68 you say it was at 300hp so would this car be just as stout or better power wise than a 72 454? I think those are 270hp just wondering because my uncle has a 72 454 and was saying that the 327 in that 68 would be weak as all get out but looks to me it would be just as strong as his 454 or am I way off?

I'll probably get hammered for this, but I'd say 10-15k minimum.

An unmolested chrome bumper 'vert? No problem hitting those numbers.

Depending on what you find when you crawl under it, I'd agree with Wrencher. Now, if it was a 427...

The Big Block would be stronger. In '68 they still used the gross HP figure where as in '72 they switched to NET which we still used today. The 454 has a ton more torque in return feels much faster.

Seems like a fair price if it does not need much work other than perhaps fixing what might start leaking due to sitting. You didn't mention how many miles are on it which would affect the price.
How much maintance was done on it over the years? Is the interior in good condition? Etc...
One way to look at is to give it a fair value of $15K and then deduct for all things that need repair. Little things like the tach not working can add up awfully fast into several thousand.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I know it's kinda of hard to put a price on a car that I really haven't gone to look at but I just wanted to get a ball park figure because this guy is saying make him an offer that he don't know what it's worth. So I will so a little more HW then take a look at it and hopefully be prepared what to offer him for it.
