Default Timing Gear

A week ago my engine rattled a little an just quit running -

At least I was close to home. A couple of my friends had just gone through this with a 72 so I collected the appropriate parts during the week and saturday we openned her up and found this:

Put it back together:

and did some repainting:

Here are some real friends:

After a long day saturday we started it up at 1:00 am Sunday. I drove it to work today!

List of major parts

Timing chain gear set
Water pump (the old one was just starting to leak)
Timing chain cover
16 push rods
one piece pan gasket
valve cover gaskets

So far there seem to be no additional problems, I hope my luck keeps up.

Good thing you caught it when you did. Looks like you were getting close to it laying down on you.
It always makes things go better when you have some good help. Glad you got it all back together and running good.

You still had a FEW teeth left. Why fix it before it is REALY broken?

It is good to have friends around who can reach the beer for you while you are under the car and too far from the fridge.

I'm going to replace my plastic timing gears shortly, but I'm also going replace the oil pump and rear main seal since it's already opened up...
