How long do the lowering bolts need to be? I'm not sure what stock length is because I'm too lazy to go outside right now and measure them. VB&P sells an 8" bolt for C3's. They have a 10" for the C4's. Is the 8" long enough to lower the rear about an inch or better? How badly will lowering the rear 1" affect the camber? Bad enough to necessitate(sp?) an alignment?
It won't affect the camber. The only thing I don't like about the longer bolt is that is lacks the holes for the cotter pins - they use a lock nut instead. Might be able to drill a small hole in the end for a cotter pin or safety wire.
After I found my upper cntl arms bolts loose, I'm paranoid about bolts loosening now.

The standard bold is about 6" I think, however you might want to measure what you have before ordering. If you have a non-stock spring you might already have the longer bolts. If you do go with longer bolts make sure the tire is not going to hit them, it is also a good idea to make sure that if you have a flat they won't drag on the road.
Just go to a local nut&bolt shop and get some 8" grade 8 bolts with matching nylock nuts. It'll be a lot cheaper than buying them from a vette parts supplier.
Standard bolt was 6.5" when I took mine out. I've got the 8" bolts in and dropped all the way. I'd like to be able to drop it another inch or so but as it stands now I only have 2.5-3.0 inches before the trailing arm will hit the bump stop
