I was going to replace my steel spring with composite but after all the chatter about body height problems that follow I am thinking twice. Does everbody have these problems with the rear sitting to high after a new composite spring ? Are these problems the same with the new steel multileaf spring ? Is the ride of the composite that much better to warrant these problems. I have seen a 80 vette in my area that sits too high in the rear and it looks terrible. Are adjustable strut rods worth the money? Will new Anti sway bars Front and/or Rear improve handling noticably? I know I have probably exceeded the unwritten forum rule of "no more than 30 questions per post" but like a 3 year old kid I have to know ????????? Thanx Brent.
I bought new trailing arms, shocks and composite spring from Van Steel about 5 months ago. I, like you, stuggled with which spring weight to use. I had read too many stories about "How do I get the rear-end down with the new 340lbs. mono-spring?" I decided to go with the 314lbs. spring weight. I do not "race" my car. The 314lbs spring gives me a very nice riding car without jacking up the rear-end.
Good luck. It's a tough decision! Ride or handling performance?
Can't the ride height be adjusted with the spring bolts??
Yes, but then you run into clearance problems to the tire. I have <1/2" between the end of my spring and the sidewall of my rear tire and the rear end of my car is higher than I really want it to be. I'd like to go lower but it isn't going to happen with this spring.

The ride height issues are related only to the TRW design spring. I have a VBP 300 rate spring on my car using the supplied 8" bolts and have stock ride height. This after having tried 2 TRW design springs that raised the rear 2" to 3".

Yes, however you need to remember that the bolt cannot extend below the wheel rim. That means the spring bolt can't be over 8" with 15" wheels or 9" with 17" wheels. Thats why VBP doesn't sell 10" bolts. Its against the law in most states for any part of the suspension to extend below the wheel rim and with good reason. If you have a flat your spring bolt will be gouging into the pavement. Also the spring end can puncture the tire side wall as has already happened to a couple people on the forum.
bubba went to home depot and had them strap cinder blocks to the luggage rack. That way he can get the gas filler through the holes in the blocks, and still have pleanty of room to go to wal mart and load up the storage area with duct tape and jb weld.
You might ask why bubba just doesn't keep his duct tape stash in the passenger seat. The answer to that is simple. Bubba drives a c3 therefore Bubba gets all the ladies.
Obviously Bubba is not from jersey. They cure that problem there with A concrete filled spare in the spare tire carrier. They leave a pair of shoes in the wet crete just incase ya need a quick disposal.
However I Did just install a rear VBP composite spring and have had NO Problems with it. Guess it just depends how low you want to go. I cant imagine a steel spring would be any better. ant it is MUCH MUCH heavier.
i installed a vb&p #360 spring in mine and it sat way too high for me even with the 8 inch bolts, also wasvery bouncy,i installed bilstien shocks and 10 inch bolts from vb&p and its perfect now.
