I am sorry I will have to vote Engine. . The two fastest Corvette's here in S.A. When I was getting greasy never had a paint job on them lol. Main reason they pushed them like they stole them so they were always fixing a crack here or a crack there or modifying the body in some way. I think that even by todays standards running in the high 9 sec range is not too shabby. One was a 63 split window the other was a 69 L88.

Had to add one more thing lol they kept them ugly because if your car looks ugly then it is easier to get a race and pull people in and back then they would race for pinks.

I would do the engine simply because you want to do both. Engine work can end up raising hell on your paint - if you do the paint first, undoubtedly you will end up doing the engine eventually as well, and you don't want to mess up your $5k paint job.

Engine first. Paint second.

i aggree with steve. You WILL screw up your pretty new paint if you do the paint work before the motor work. When I do cars i usually do...

Engine/trans/diff
Suspension
Body/Paint
Interior

I like my cars to run well. What good is a paint job if it's not running right?

Engine and with todays solid roller cams you can build a very nasty engine that behaves like a ordinary motor until you mash the pedal
