Default Bracing for Ivan....

This is ridiculous.... Three major hurricanes in a month. There are already lines at the gas pumps and HUGE lines at Home Depot for plywood.

I went to Home Depot tonight after work to get plywood. Yeah the line was as long as the store was and I'm not exaggerating. Luckly I was toward the front. Needless to say I got there and they ran out and I had to wait an hour.

I live in PA, but my company corporate offices are in Delray Beach, so I have been impacted as far as business goes. I have had to tell some potential customers that I can't get the proposals done on time because my support teams are being impacted by the hurricanes. I would rather have my problem than the challenges facing you folks in FL. Several people I have spoken with at our corporate have had serious damage to their homes. Good luck with the next storm. If you are ever looking for some snow instead of hurricanes, PA is a great place to live.

My daughter and soon to be son-in-law are leaving the 28th of this month for Jamaica to be married and honeymoon there. Looks like Ivan is going to hit dead center there tomorrow. This wedding may have to be put off.

Guess we've been too lucky for too long. 40 years in SW FL with no major hits.

My house in South Dade sustained $75K worth of damage in Andrew. All windows and some interior walls blown down.

I was blessed with Charley, much more so than my neighbors who didn't fare as well. The eye passed over Bokeelia which is 15 miles from here.

I drove home from Maryland THROUGH Frances. Fortunately it was a tropical storm on Sunday around 6 as I was passing Tampa on I-75.

I'm too young to have been through so many of these things. Morale of the story? Don't move in next door to me. These hurricanes seems to like me. I'm convinced that where ever I go, Ivan will find me.

It's all my fault!!

After picking up my vette in Tampa 2 years ago, I've been wanting to move there. There are so many more AS/400 opportunities there plus the climate, plus the activities, plus the, well, you get the picture. The wife and I started seriously discussing a move a few weeks back, just as the hurricanes started arriving. So, there ya go. Sorry bout that....

I'm waiting for the Weather Channel to say that Naples (SW Florida) will get a direct hit. These storms never hit the projected target so I'm thinking we'd be safer.

Honestly it's too far away to tell where and when Ivan will hit Florida. I'm thinking I'll be boarding up the house this weekend. If it's still a cat 4 or 5, I think I'll be taking the kids and going to a shelter.

I wish all fellow Corvetters and Floridians a safe week.

Are you planning on driving your Vette during the hurricane? Trying to
understand how this thread has any relation to the C3 Forum.

Interesting priority. I would think life and limb would be more important than material things. That's just me though

Dep, i guess you're just toying with us. most of us are like family. we vent our frustations dealing with several hurricanes and our own mortality. we find comfort in our on-line friends, who are not only concerned with our material things, but also our physical and mental well-being.

i think it's great to have friends who care!!

My original point has been conveniently overlooked. This belongs in the OT section and not the C3 section.

Uhhhhhh---- take a look at about 20 to 30% of the topics here on C3 and you will see that they "belong" in OT, but since we are a close knit family on this forum we read them if they sound interesting, and skip them if they don't.
Let's face it, the OT forum is not for general info/comments/questions anymore. It has become a "post horse" factory with the "bars" and just about 95% of the other topics are BS, i.e. "What should I eat for dinner?", "Good porno titles", "My leg just fell asleep", etc. You get the idea.

If the MODERATORS think it is OT, it gets moved. If not, it stays here.

BTW Larry, it looks like you and I will get lucky this time around.

And this logic is why so many guys that can HELP the folks with tech questions or other valuable advice have LEFT the C3 Forum. Keep it up and you can change it's name to the "Weather Channel Forum" or "Group Hugg Forum". But don't gripe when something goes bad on your Vette and NOBODY has any answers for you.
