Default X/H Pipe

I have a 68 Convertable 4 Spd and am installing a 383 with Ceramic Hooker Super Comp headers and Mid Americas chambered exhaust. I have read in threads that these systems backfire without a crossover pipe. Can anyone tell me where you fit your crossover ?? Help is much appreaciated.

I installed my H pipe about 12 inches behind the trans cross member. I didn't have any back firing prior to it - but it definitely helped with the exhaust note. It had some cackle to it - which <gladly> went away. Here's the thread I started when I did mine. H-pipe

I have a H pipe near where the first post has his..about a foot or so behind the tranny thwart...so the question is.....just exactly how is the x over placed, and is it an insert into the two pipes, or do they actually DO a crossover in the center without any bypass legs down the sides?? and if so, where is the X centerline placed??? and anyone who tried both that can attest to any specific improvement over the H pipe setup???

I have three inch pipes with stainless steel packed box race mufflers. To quiet them down some what i had a muffler shop put a 3 inch ovalled on the ends 4 inch long cross over underneath the pumpkin where the pipes are close together.

I have a custom cross brace like the BT OD to make it straight back from the header collectors.

I can't show a picture because of the forum old home pages don't work anymore
