73-82 hoods are taller than 68-72 small block hoods. 68-72 cars have more of a drop base air cleaner. I think with the 68-72 base and a 73-82 hood, it might fit. There have been LOTS of posts about this though...something in the archives has to tell you for sure...do a search.

I have a 79 vette with a stock hood except I ditched the insulation and cut down and ground flush the insulation studs. I installed an Edlebrock Performer RPM manifold with the stock QJ and air cleaner. I also have poly motor mounts. The air cleaner just touchs the underside of the hood enough to rub the paint off. At this point I'm not worried about the paint so I called it good. I plan to go to the air gap. The height is the same and I expect no problems. I may mill 1/8" off the manifold carb base which should not affect perfromance. Do you need the insulation? I don't think so. I have made a significant effort to reduce under hood temperatures so I'm not worried about heat. Modern paints are probably more heat resistant than the old laquers were.
