I got my cam about halfway out but seems to not come out any further. Can I apply a little persausion or is that a big no no. I mean tapping not beating.
If you still have the crank and pistons in, you might have to rotate it a bit to add some clearance. Don't force it, as it comes out of the bearings it can drop and hang on things. You have to guide it through all the cam bearings.

Do not try forcing it or tap on it with a hammer, you will likely screw up the cam bearings at the least by doing that. Like someone said make sure the fuel pump rod is not engaged, and try rotating the cam shaft while lifting up on it from the exposed portion, it will drop down as the cam bearing surfaces come out of the bearings and the lobes can hang up on the block lifting it up and rotating it should work ok for you.
