I know a lot of you have welded (over the spot welds) on your frames and trailing arms. Is there any chance that you might have pics of the finished job? Would love to see them as I have a welder lined up and he would like to see an example....
Yep, MIG and gas it is.... I have the body off and the guy doing the welding for me said the same thing. I'm not quite ready yet.... have a little more frame cleaning to go but he would like to see a finished project.
yea mig is the key and I prefer Ar/Co2 mix over regular Co2. When you do it, jsut weld in the open sections and alternate the place where you weld so that the frame doesn't distort from the heat.
Hard to see but this is the finished job on mine:

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but the trailing arms are off my car. They are not fully welded.
Was this a way to save time by Chevy?
Should I have them welded before putting them back on?
Is there a way to add any strength to them or are they good as is?

Perhaps the VanSteel guys can add something in here. I suspect they probably see more problem trailing arms than most.
I've been told that finishing up the welds on the frame makes a real difference in the way the car feels whether your preference is going in a straight line (fast) or around corners (fast).
I think all the welding done on my frame was done on a Friday. Splatter everywhere, long threads of the wire feed, butt ugly welds, etc. At least they are holding up and not cracked but man, this guy could not have been an hourly employee!
if you have the control arms off, weld them through, the welding is really poor on those, especially the sway bar mount. The trailing arms are even worse.
