I have a factory QJet with a drop base air cleaner. I noticed some small dents on the base of the air cleaner. Turns out that when I tighten down the air cleaner the base is squashing the accelerator pump lever. This was giving me a reduced amount of gas from my pump shot. I also found that my idle speed would sometimes stick about 200 RPM too high.
Basically the neck of the base that sits on the carb is too shallow. After speaking with some engine builders they told me there are bases that have taller necks to allow clearance for the accelerator pump on a QJet. For now I stacked up 4 air cleaner gaskets but I am making a metal spacer as a permanent solution. I can't believe I never came across this little tidbit of information here on the forum so if I help out even one person...
my base has bubba dents in it (my doing) to help alleviate the exact same problem...now it's even worse because I don't need the additional room with the holley..
