I'm trying to figure out why my tachometer spins backwards. If you have original tach wiring, could you please check the color of the two wires to the tach? Is the forward wire black and the rear wire red? Anyone have any thoughts as to any other wiring that might have gotten transposed and caused the reversal?

TIA as always!

Man I'd love to help you. My tach is hanging out on my 75 just waiting for me to look at it and answer the question. I'm deployed and won't be home for 2 months. Ask me then if you still need to know. I'd be happy to go look for you. Good luck

I just walked outside and looked at my '75. The tach wiring at the distributor is a brown wire coming through the firewall , connected to the tach filter, then plugging into the HEI distributor in the connector marked Tach. The larger Pink wire is the 12v source for the distributor. Plugs into the connector marked BAT. The only other thing I can think of is actually switching the wires at the actual Tachometer. I replaced the circuit board on mine this past winter and was careful to reconnect the wires properly to the spade connectors, although I believe it was a single connector with three wires.

I thought the wiring at the tach was a plug in, only one way it will connect. Do you have a good ground to the tach?

Thanks all. It was the wiring at the distributor that I questioned.

Thanks for your help!
