I have an early 68 vert with "monza" style headlights. I am converting back to stock "flip-ups". I have been told the 68 "doors" (covers) are a different size than the other years. Does anyone know the correct sizes? Are there any other differences?BTW, I will be looking to get rid of the "monza " lights if anyone is interested. Only thing... they are still on the car, and it may take a while to get around to getting them off.
My early 68 (November 1967) measures 9 3/4 x 14 7/16 perpendicular across the edges. I think the opening might be the same but later headlights had squirter nozzels built in.
There were some minor differences, but nothing that would keep you from using them from other years. The thing that you will have to look out for is the support housings. They were different for certain years and replacements were fits alls. So you could get into some difficulty if you dont get the correct ones. In general 68-72 will work. 73- up will need different housings.
I understand that early '68 headlight doors are slightly larger than later '68's and then the same size carries on for a number of years. I don't know when the cutoff is, though. The headlight frames have to be modified to accept the grill brackets if you are still using the '68 style. It's really just a matter of drilling and tapping a couple of 10-24 holes.
