Default rear leaf spring...paint

well,
i have managed to have some of the rear suspension parts chromed and powder coated (black/green)... i have no clue what to do with the spring........ i know the chrome might crack but will the powder coating crack also.... i'm thinking about painting it with that flex additive that is used for urethane bumpers.... any suggestions

I am in the same situation. I want to repaint my new steel spring (becaust the original paint is crap). Need a paint with very high abrasion resistance. Right now I'm thinking that is catalyzed paint or powder coating.

powder coating will rub off due to the leaves scraping and moving against eachother.

I would never chrome plate a spring. It may become brittle due to absorption of hydrogen during the plating process. Failures have been reported. Using plastic liners between leaves should minimize wear on other types of coatings.
P.S. Of course if the car is for show only, it doesn't matter if the springs are brittle.

Paints like POR-15 and Rust Bullet are supposed to be pretty abrasion resistant and flexible. Color choices are somewhat limited but either one can be topcoated with another color paint. You would also have the added benefit of rust protection.

Fiberglass spring painted with Krylon. Still looks good after several years of casual driving.

I thought you weren't supposed to paint a composite spring due to the solvent weakening the resin - maybe vansteel will chime in on this...
