I'm helping a friend with his `73 Convertable and we're taking out his original tired 350 and putting in a new GMPP ZZ4 but I'm not sure what headers to run as he wants good ground clearance and the stock manifolds won't match up to the larger ports on the ZZ4 heads or clear the angled plugs..I was even considering a set of Sanderson cast headers as well..anybody used these on a C3?
Sanderson also makes shorty headers with the D shaped exhaust ports. The shorty headers essentially replace the cast iron rams manifold. The D shapped ports are what you need for an exact fit. Sanderson will also make a custom header for you.
Hedman makes a D shaped header for a Corvette. I don't know what it looks like, but I think it matches up the the stock underbody dual exhaust. It's part number 68309- painted or 66309 Ceramic coated.
Several people writing into this forum have said that you can buy headers with the traditional SB circular exhaust ports for your ZZ4 and they will work OK.
I bought a Hedman #68280 for my ZZ4. This is the header that was meant to work with the 1969 factory side exhaust system. It has circular exhaust ports. Although the catalog does no indicate it will work with angle plug heads, I've held the headers up the engine and there doesn't appear to be any problem. Although this was a made to order header from Hedman they refused to make it with D ports!! (#***@#) If I use this header and like it, I'll have a header company custom make one for me.
