It's not you, the longer front end and cowl induction hood both contribute to that look. That's why I like the 73's. Joe

It doesn't look visually longer ... it IS longer. The 1972 was 182.5 inches long. The 1973 was 184.6 inches long. When the 1974 added the urethane rear bumper, it became 185.5 inches long. No optical illusion necessary. Just longer, due to the energy absorbing mounting systems for the 5 mph government mandated bumpers.

So it the 73 is actually longer!! I test drove a 70 and a 72 before I bought this 73 and I couldn't put my finger on it. But I thought it was due to the offset in front soft and rear chrome which sort of visually gave me that impression.

Oh by the way the 70 and 72 were pretty rough rides and nothing lined up on them.. That's why I didn't purchase them.. The 73 rode tighter and smother... I like the look of the 68 to 72... But the 73 is a nice looking car period!!!

Thanks for the facts guys.

Another little known fact is 1973 is the first year with a suspension tuned for radial tires. That's pretty much all we use these days.

73 are the most unique looking and least respected of the C3's although I think that is slowly changing.

does the 73 look visually longer...
yes;

long, low, and sleek. Duntov said the 1973 was his favorite.

Arkus Duntov! WOW!

So are these 73's going up in value? I guess they are then...

I did some research since I posted this last, and found out that the 73's are the first year to use side impact beams and first year for the rubber body mounts... and they refered this year as one of the plushest riding since this change.. Albiet all proceeding Covettes had this change and were smoother riding...
Now I can see why the 70 and 72 were harsher riding... LOL

Anyways I love this car and I went for a nice cruise today, and am happy to see the reactions from people when I pass by.
I had a girl start up a conversation with me at the pumps and was lookin around for fear someone would snitch on my wife... LOL
All in good fun though

Cheers
