Default Removing wiper door

Hey all. I am the proud new owner of a '70 model T-Top, my first 'vette. I am also obviously new to the forums. I've been reading through the posts here and it's a GREAT site. My compliments to you all, you've already been a big help on a couple of things.

I do have a question though (the first of many I'm sure). My wiper door comes up and stays up when I fire up the beast. I have used the search function and there is some excellent information regarding the operation of the system. From what I can see, the right wiper is not touching the switch when it is down. In order to get to it I have to remove the door. My question is: how? It looks like there are 4 bolts holding it to the mechanism but when I try to remove them they just spin and don't come out. Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.

A few details on the car...

It has in the past been set up to drag. It's a numbers matching 454 that has a C396 Edelbrock intake, double pumper Holley (which has the choke horn milled off so I can't tell what size it is) a magneto in place of the distributor, and a pretty rough cam. The rest of the engine is factory although there is a tell-tale braided line where once it was nitros'd. It has headers/sidepipes that are black and ugly which have zero baffles so it's kinda tough driving uptown to the grocery store . The rear 12" grooved slicks poke out a little from the backside too. All that along with the 4:11 rear end make it sound like you're flying at cruising speeds. The auto tranny has had a shift kit installed. It does sound sweet though, especially at idle and will JUMP when you punch it. The good news, mechanically it is very sound and the body and interior are in decent shape along with the frame. It's definitely somewhat of a project car but I already love it.

I'm looking forward to many hours of piddling with it and discussions with y'all. I'm hooked.

Look for nuts on the underside of the door (from Bubba) - oposite of where the bolt inserts into the door. If you do not find any bolts here, your door has a thread repair kit installed and the inserts are spinning on you. If this is the case, you can unbolt the complete mechanism door arms and all from under the hood. You will find four oblong disks on the fire wall - they will have two nuts each. Just remove these along with the vacuum canister and the whole unit will slip out for repair.
