Default ODDservations and notes from Interior Job

I've posted here enough about the trials I had doing the interior work and the Reflectix/Carpet install. Thanks for the help y'all!

FYI what was done was carpet, Reflectix, new inside panels, all new lights, tach and gauge repair, then resealing a/c ducting and heater box.

Well today I took her out on the road for a one-hour each way mountain run to check out my work.

We did GREAT! No rattles or squeeks. PERIOD!! The Air Conditioning system is new as of a few months ago, front to back. But before the dash came apart, so much air was lost between the blower/evaporator that very little air really came out of the dash vents. In addition, by the time we drove the car for an hour or more there was so darn much heat buildup in the cabin that the A/C wouldn't have been able to keep up even IF it had been blowing enough volume of air.

Now the carpet not only has really thick Jute backing but also Reflectix under it. The Reflectix is under the carpet, front and rear, over the transmission tunnel, and all over the rear storage compartment. Even on the top where there is not carpet back there. I put Reflectix down inside the little storage areas left of the battery. I put it on the vertical wall at the far back.

While the dash was out, I pulled the heater box off and resealed it. As each part of the A/C ducting system went in it got new seals too. Then the final, where the ducts connect to the front of the dash by the vent *****. New seals. Up top, the center vents are sealed too.

So back to the trip today. One hour each way and I was COOL! Before I would have the A/C blower turned up on MAX and after an hour of driving it would just be hot as Dickens inside that car. Now, after an hour I'm turning the blower down every fifteen minutes!

The reflectix did NOT make the car quieter however and I was hoping it would. But even after a two hour drive, the floor is now cool to the touch in most places, and barely warm right over the exhuast. YEA BABY! I don't think it is an exageration at all to say that now the A/C keeps up very well and it's at least 10 to 15 degrees cooler now after driving her a while (compared to an hour of driving before, with the new A/C system).

And the airflow thru the vents - tripled at least. Before, the only place a lot of air came out was the center vents. Now, I am VERY! satisfied with the whole A/C system and it no longer feels inadequate. I have more than enough air volume and I remember reading posts of others who put in C4 blowers to get more air. I think all they needed to do was reseal the system.

I have plenty of air now. And a cool floor!

Great write up Paul and nice work. About your sound deading issue though..what else do you think you could have done to deaden the sound more? Thought reflectix was a sound/heat barrier?? If not that good of a sound proofer then what else can be used with reflectix to increase the sound proofing aspect of this mod! Thanks in advance for any info....Joe!

This is going to be my winter project so I'm glad to hear that you're happy with the work that went into the job.

I've got my '77 in the shop having the A/C brought up to speed and have new carpet and most all interior part for an interior color change.

I hope to have the same results you did.

im in the process of rebuiling my car and im on the interior at this point. ive never heard of this reflectix stuff but i am installing dynamat all over just as SanDiegoPaul did in his car and i know what he means when he says poor air flow and roasting interior and floors that you cant touch because they are to hot from the exhaust. anyways i am hopeing for the same results and it sounds possable to me now after reading Pauls write up and thanks much for the good post. i'll update my progress once i get the interior done and get the engine all done and the car running again.

Not sure. Maybe Dynomat in addition to Reflectix? Not really sure what is more possible than one at a time, considering the thickness of the backing behind the new carpet.

Maybe something like Dynamat Extreme or an alternative would be better for sound deadening? I was hoping to try that on my '80.

Glad to hear that it finished up well and does what you wanted it to do A/C wise. I'm hoping to finish up in the next couple of weeks. I'm changing the carpets and interior color.

Got any pics ?

Anyone use Brownbread..heard it is a great sound deadener. Not sure about heat resistance? Anyone have good results with anything that can do both heat/sound deadening capabilities????

Oh, yea. I've posted pics right along starting with the scraping of the rust from the floorpans, on up to POR-15 on the clean floors and the Reflectix coating. If you search by my name I'm sure you will see them all.

I just posted pics of the completion two days ago I think. The forum is so slow this morning that I can't go back and fetch the link to repost it for ya right now, using another browser window.

I hope this post goes thru!
