I have medium saddle interrior all different shades. Carpet in x condition but is a sick looking shade. can a dye be used to fix. Is dye good for the panels or a spray? need to buy new piller trim and I know they will not match the old trim. Whats the best wat to fix.
Welcome to the 3 shade med saddle int club! Have the same problem with mine, redid it and bought new door panels and center consule but when I redyed (read: repainted) my other parts the color is just a little off. I did not what to redye the new parts so I just live with it. My carpet looks orig and needs to be replaced but that will wait.
1. The expensive way - replace all with new mid-america (not likely)
2. Color Change - the wrong color can be painted/dyed by a porfessional or yourself
3. Buy NOS parts - not likely but you may find some second hand pieces that are OK for a driver
4. Call SEM. The phone number and email is on there web page. My friend who has a 74 and 79 with saddle interior did just that. They can give you the paint codes for your year car and then you can go to someone like CARQUEST (thats what we have here) and get them to mix up the SEM vinyl paint to the right shade.
I used the SEM products on my interior and they worked great. Do a test patch before you go and start doing the door panels. those panels are expensive!
I agree SEM paints are the best out there.
My Medium Saddle interior was all sorts of shades of brown.
I re-dyed all the interior plastic and vinyl, replaced the carpet and now my interior looks like the day it rolled off the line....probably better.
Judge for yourself.
GM did a crappy job of matching the colors of components in their interiors. Saddle was probably the worst.
When I restored my old 69 convertible (now gone), I bough Al Knoch seat covers and then hunted around to find interior dye that matched. I think it was Corvette America that was closest. Then I cleaned and re-dyed everything but the carpet and seats. It wound up looking awesome.
My experience with medium saddle dye is that Corvette America's is just about dead on while Eckler's is just a shade lighter than original. However the finish of the Ecklers has a nicer sheen to it than Corvette America's. Pick your poison.

Very nice, but that's not how '74s came from the factory. The upper dash pad is supposed to be MUCH darker shade of brown to reduce reflection and glare.
