Just to reiterate, the hole between #6 and 8 is for the late C3 auxiliary fan sensor. The engine temp sensor is between #1 and 3.

As for the intake plug, that hex head does not look too bad. It is a NPT (National Plumbing Thread) fit and you can look in the bins at Home Depot for something better if you wish. Or give Edelbrock a call to see if they have a plug. Install new with teflon plumbing thread compound to avoid leaks. But I would leave it alone (it may not wish to come out) and clean up the intake then paint over with some like VHT Cast Aluminum engine paint. It is gas and oil resistant.

Just as an example, this manifold:

Started out as this (from EBay):

Just WOW!! That looks phenomenal.

Could I use that paint on my power booster and master cylinder? What about the water pump I'm going to buy?

One other question, where do I buy that paint? Will an auto parts store carry that?

As far as the sending units, the guage sending unit always has been in the driver's side head. I'm going to put the aux. fan sending unit in the passengers side head where, currently, there is a plug.

You can buy high-heat engine paint at any automotive store or speedshop. And yes it can be used on most parts. It will not resist brake fluid but quite frankly I do not know any paint that will.
