1980 engines were originally some shade of blue, i think. What was the exact color? What parts were painted? What product should I use to repaint mine to factory original. Pics of an originally colored engine would be great.

Engines were painted at the engine plant (Flint or Tonawanda) and shipped to St Louis without carburetor, fuel pump, air cleaner assembly, fuel pump, AIR, alternator, starter, EGR, or transmission either manual or automatic! However, engines were accompanied with manual transmission bellhousings. Otherwise, engines were “dressed” at the Corvette assembly plant.
Manual transmission bellhousings would have been installed along with harmonic balancer, water pump, intake manifold and valve covers at the engine assembly plant. Therefore, manual transmission bellhousings typically show overspray while transmissions show no overspray. Transmissions were installed at the Corvette plant. Bellhousings accompanied the engine from the engine assembly plant along with clutch, pressure plate and fork. But clearly no transmissions were painted nor received overspray from the engine assembly plant. The lower AIR bracket was installed at the engine plant as well as the lower alternator bracket and both painted engine color.
