Another Timing Question
I have a 350 out of a 72 Camaro in my 79 vette. I just installed a new compcam. I'm not an engine guru but learn quickly. What I have not been able to understand is how do I know what my timing should be? 8 degrees? 3 degrees? 5 degrees above or below TDC? Obviously I can look it up for a 72 Camaro and start there (assuming the cam change doesn't change it) but what determines this number and how can I figure it out for myself so I know it is correct? Wouldn't this new cam require a new timing setting? My balancer has 2224 stamped into it. I found that the timing mark on it is 10 degrees off from the keyway on the crank.
