Bolted up the harmonic balancer puller when I got home from work...I take a few pulls and notice one of the bolts that mounts the puller to the balancer is bent!! I take the bolts out and notice one of them has pulled out of the balancer, stripping the threads in the balancer. DAYYYYUM!!!
WTF do I do now?!? Is it ok to helicoil the hole? If so, will it be strong enough to get the balancer off? I'd like to try and save this balancer because it's a nice Fluidamper unit. Any clues appreciated...
Brett,
I have buggered up balancer threads before. The one time I was able to clean them up with a NF (fine thread) tap. I do not know if the Fluidamper uses fine threads or not.
You could try coarse thread tapping. If that does sound workable, go helicoils. They should work well for sure.
