Which do you prefer and why?

Out of those two - Haynes. More complete, in my opinion. Good to have one of those types of books on hand for general repair and maintenance.
I would get the factory service manual and the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) as my first choices though. The AIM is invaluable for learning where parts go. It is not an instruction manual but all those pictures are worth a thousand words. It will save you a lot of frustration.

I have used a Haynes since 1989 on a 73sb and a74bb. I would not trade it for anything(except lars in my spare room.)

Haynes and Assembly Manual usually.
Also have the Chiltons and Clymers (sp?). You can never have too much info.

Helms it is!
One will be here in 7 to 10 business days. If the book has over 3000 pages in it, it has to have atleast something I can use in it somewhere.

I would get only the factory manuals, Service manual, Chassis Manual, and the AIM.
