Before everyone gets to excited here (oops, too late ), remember that current CA law does not "exempt" older vehicles from meeting emissions requirements, only that they do not have to presented for testing every two years. The significance of this is the increased useage of roadside sniffers by the agencies responsible for enforcment. The goal is to use this technology as well as burst downloads from newer cars (OBD 3 & 4) th ensure compliance. Sort of like photo radar, but you get a smog ticket. I'm doomed with my fleet, but I'll wait 'till they get me to worry about it.
Come to think of it, they may just ignore the older cars as too much trouble...
Actually it doesn't, that's why it's so popular. We have our share of loons, but most people ignore 'em. Best d**m weather, roads and cars anywhere, plus if we ever cecede from the Union, the US becomes a third world country.

Oh, please. Looking at your (illegal) immigration rate, I believe Calif. will be in the Third World before anyone else.
I thought there was insane money in Calif. until I moved to FLA.
I see more and more Calif. lic. plates here everyday. These people aren't just visiting. You're not going to drive to FLA from CA for a visit. Cashing-out their over-priced SFR's and buying two/three/four properties here. Scrips Research Foundation (La Jolla) is even building a huge R&D facility in Palm Beach County.
CA is oppressive in all forms. Taxation, gun laws, vehicle laws, personal freedom, etc.
I gotta visit OK! Never seen a tornado, and these dang quakes are just to long in between! Seriously, everplace has its pluses and minuses. CA hiway 1 keeps me here for now, but when I retire I'm takin' my Cali pension and movin' someplace cheap!
And, I've lived here all my life. The PCH is great if you don't have too much traffic! I've had the pleasure of driving it. Unfortunately, I was in a rental car. Still, a cool road.
