My 73 has the cast aluminum wheels with the polished centers. I was told by the previous that these wheels were in fact ordered when the car was bought. I was told that there were only a few sold this year because of a casting problem. Unfortunately I do not have the build sheet for the gas tank was replaced and I guess the sheet went with it. Is there any way I can verify if these wheels are original to the car?

Supposedly only four 73 Corvettes came with those wheels and they were recalled so it is unlikely that they are original but possible. Look for the manufacture date stamped on the wheel. Also, there should be a 15 X 8 XM. 15 X 8 for wheels size and XM the code for the aluminum wheels.

The YJ8 option is for the aluminum wheels in 73, only four sets reportedly were ever released. A build sheet must be presented will validate that, very rare to have that option, in 74 no aluminum wheels were offered...
