I just had some massive engine work done, which included Hooker headers, but I didn't have the $ to coat them. Since then, I've noticed a massive increase in the heat near the foot bed in my vette, what gives? Is it the Header, and would coating them help stop the heat?
When you put on headers it makes your engine breath easier and effectively leans out your A/F mixture. You should richen your carb which will not only give you a better tuned engine but will lower your exhaust temp and therefore your foot temp as well.
Definetely richen your carb before you put coated headers on because the higher exhaust temp from running lean will dull the ceramic coating. I know from experience...
FYI I found it didn't take long before the the header gaskets that came with my Hookers had blow byes and caused little tick tick ticking sounds from exhaust leaks.
