I recently bought a 1982 Corvette. Yesterday while coming to a slow stop, I lost much of my braking ability and had to pump them to come to a stop. After this occured the brake light has stayed lit and I have ensured the emergrncy brake was not engaged. I have lost a great deal of braking capability and I need to get this repaired asap.
I am guessing it's the master cylinder after having confirmed there is no shortage of brake fluid and no apparent leaking. (The last statement I am not 100% sure of). Please advise me as to what you think this is. You folks are always so helpful......thanks in advance.

Usually when the brake light comes on it is indicating a brake problem. I would suggest removing the wheels and inspecting the calipers for any leaks, as this can be decieving with the wheels on. Check under the hood also look at the brake booster to ensure there is no vacum leak to the booster. If that is clear, then would attempt to bleed brakes and see what happens...definately unsafe driving with emergency brake!
Pull the cap off your Master Cylinder. if it is full the M/C is bad. A very hard pedal is the sign of a bad Vacuum booster so I doubt that is the problem. You problem sounds like the typical bad M/C. Pull the wheels and look for fluid at the calipers. If there is any those will need to be replaced as well.
