ok, well i have the motor in and running actually drove the car today in the neighbor hood!!!!!! too damn loud open header i am sure i made some of the neighbors upset. i have had a few issues that all should be aware of!!!!the big one is a problem with corvette style water pump. the crate motor comes with a different style timing cover than what came with our old sbc. on the passenger side there is a timing cover bolt that hits the back side case of the water pump. there fore not allowing the water pump to be tight . it made a nice puddle in my garage. i had to use my dremel tool and grind about half of the head of the bolt, and ground some meat out of the back of the water pump as well. i will post some pics, but they did not come out all that well, a little blury.
also, there is a plug in the head drivers side where the temp sending unit should go. it is square....smaller than 3/8 bigger than 1/4 so i am in the process of trying to figure out how to get the plug out so i can use my stock temp guage!!! anyone else have an idea. the parts guy at the dealership is one of the biggest morons i have ever seen!!!! i tried to explain to him what i needed and he just gave me the deer in the headlights look. probalby did not even know what a cylinder head is.
The trick on the water pump is to replace the interfering bolt(s) with old style "stove bolts". Round headed slotted screws with much shorter head height.
