Since your exhaust isn't running under the car, you have enough room under your floor board for additional storage. Simple enough to build a bin (probably should be metal even though the frame protects it) under the floor, cut a square hole in the floor, add hinges & trim.

Why would someone cut a hole in their floor just for storage space???

Why would somebody put side pipes on their car?

Why would somebody put a custom body on their car?

Why would somebody put a custom interior in their car?

Why would somebody put braided hose, colored wire loom or Edelbrock in their engine compartment?

Probably because it's their car and that is what they like.

Duh... poor lemmings.

My question is not why, but who . . . .

Who needs extra storage space in a Vette?

Good place for an amp, disc changer or video recorder was what I was thinking. Easier to get to then behind the seat... plus good for things that you want to keep out of the way during a show (especially if you are showing off the rest of your interior).

Anywhere you want on the driver or passenger floor or both... you really only have about 2 inches before it would extend below the crossmember.

Just something silly I thought about when seeing an ad for some minivan that had floor storage... so I won't be looking for royalties if anybody actually performs the operation.

I should have known better then to post it here on this board though... such low tolerance for any mods other then their own.

Will cutting a hole in the floor effect the integrity of the mounting brackets for the seats? I would hate for this to have an adverse effect on your safety if you hit something or someone hits you.

Yeah, a disc changer would be too large. After I posted about it, I went out to the garage and measured to see how far you could really go... only about 2 inches.

It's not a very good idea... not because of cutting a hole in the Holiest of Cars, but because of the potential for hitting road debris.

djunod, I should say that I'm happy you brought up a suggestion for modifying our cars though. It's always great to hear new ideas. If there was no one willing to do that this forum would be a boreing place. I just saw the opportunity for a joke and took it. Maybe I shouldn't have.
